AI expert refuses to pay into pension as he fears AI will wipe out humans soon

An AI safety expert says he hasn't paid into his pension plan as he believes that there is a “more than 50% chance” that humanity is wiped out within the next decade. Paying into a pension or 401(K) is something that, for a lot of people, is pretty important. Others, however, choose to ignore it so that they can spend the money now. Yet, in the case of Nate Soares, a former Google engineer, he refuses to contribute to his 401K that was set up during his time with Google. Why?
