a16z Raised $2.2 Billion for Its Fifth Crypto Fund.

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is weighing a new name and broader investment remit for its crypto fund after completing a $2.2 billion raise months ago. The proposed name is a16z frontier, and the plan would extend the fund’s focus to emerging technologies beyond crypto. Longtime general partner Ali Yahya is expected to leave the fund. As of Oct. 22, a16z had not publicly announced the name change. The firm’s fifth crypto fund raised $2.2 billion, roughly half the $4.5 billion raised for its fourth fund in 2022. Across five funds, a16z has raised nearly $10 billion.
