Overwatch Director says PvE could return but full campaign would need a “whole new game”

Overwatch Game Director Aaron Keller has opened the door to PvE story missions returning, but bringing back the ambitious campaign originally promised for Overwatch 2 could require an entirely new game. When Overwatch 2 was first announced in 2019, PvE was one of its biggest selling points, with Blizzard promising a story campaign, replayable Hero Missions, talent trees, and more. However, those plans gradually fell apart. Blizzard canceled Hero Mode in 2023, leaving players with just three story missions released as part of the Invasion update.
