Three people linked to Britain’s Conservative Party, including its former campaign director, avoided prison Friday (Oct. 23) after admitting using confidential information to bet on the timing of the country’s 2024 general election. Anthony Lee, 49, received a 10-month-and-two-week prison sentence, suspended for one year, at London’s Southwark Crown Court. His wife, Laura Lee, 38, received a four-month-and-two-week suspended sentence, while former party employee Amy Hind, 36, received six months, also suspended. The trio admitted cheating under Britain’s Gambling Act. They also face bans on using online gambling sites or apps for 12 months, probation requirements, and unpaid community work.
