Solana Records 212-Millisecond Slots After Completing 200-Millisecond Rollout

Solana completed a four-stage reduction in its target slot time to 200 milliseconds, and a public node recorded actual slots averaging 212 milliseconds from Oct. 22-25. The shorter target increases how often the network produces blocks, while the amount of work processed per second remained roughly steady. The change, made under proposal SIMD-0525, moved the target down from 400 milliseconds. Validators completed the stages on Aug. 21, Aug. 28, Sept. 18 and Oct. 9. The schedule for the final slot reduction described the planned rollout before it was complete. Solana had no network halts during a 361-day review.
