Alpenglow Is Coming to Solana Mainnet Next Week

Solana’s most ambitious consensus overhaul, Alpenglow, will activate at epoch 1064 on Oct. 21st, around 15:00 UTC, per the Solana Foundation . It swaps out TowerBFT, the voting system Solana has run since genesis, and targets roughly 150 millisecond finality, down from about 12.8 seconds today. Votor first, Rotor later: Next week’s switch ships only Votor, Alpenglow’s new voting engine. Under Votor, validators trade signed votes directly and roll them into compact certificates. Rotor, the block-propagation half of the design, needs its own governance proposal and doesn’t have a date yet.
